Our partner Aecon Industrial was the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the construction of a 30MW Peaker Plant at the existing Kirkland Lake Power Corporation Generating Plant. The new plant consists of 1 natural gas-fueled GE LM 2500+ Gas Turbine Generator package in simple cycle. The new plant is part of the existing plant’s gross output of power but is intended to be a stand-alone Peaking Plant. Aecon's construction scope included civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, and control installations. They were also responsible for the design engineering, procurement of balance of plant equipment, start-up, pre-commissioning, commissioning support and testing services. The project was completed in July 2004, one full month ahead of schedule.
