Our goal is to be not only the most efficient and trusted construction company in western Canada, but also one of the safest. The immediate safety and long-term health of our employees and contractors is of paramount importance, and we’re leading the way with a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety program (OH&S).
At the outset of every project, our Corporate Safety Manager works with the Project Manager, Superintendent and Safety Officer to prepare a plan for site specific safety. We’ve developed an orientation program to ensure all site personnel are familiar with the safety and security arrangements of our projects. Each new worker at Scott Construction receives personal instruction at the beginning of their first shift, which includes a DVD presentation discussing Scott Construction’s safety protocol and verbal instruction on safety policies, practices, procedures and a tour of the work site. Workers under the age of 25 are given additional attention and instruction.
Each of our Construction Safety Officers is well trained and informed on the provincial WorkSafe BC Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. Each is level 3 first aid trained and carries the industry recognized designation of C.S.O. (Construction Safety Officer), who makes daily inspections to ensure compliance.
Our safety program continues to evolve and improve as we strive to become more safety conscious with each project. Our program encourages an awareness of workplace hazards, establishes standard work procedures to deal with hazards, and provides appropriate training for all employees.
We’re proud to say that we participate in two voluntary programs that recognize a company with C.O.R. (Certificate of Recognition) status, for both Health and Safety and Injury Management/Return to Work programs. The first is recognized by WorkSafeBC through our associative partner BCCSA (British Columbia Construction Safety Alliance) and
the second is recognized by the Government of Alberta through our associative partner ACSA (Alberta Construction Safety Association). These accreditations demonstrate our commitment to being the best.
A C.O.R. is awarded following the development, implementation and successful independent audit evaluation of a Health and Safety management system that meets and exceeds industry standards.
In addition to our C.O.R. status, we have successfully been involved with ISNetworld. That’s a valued independent online contractor management database that collects and verifies safety, procurement, quality and regulatory information. ISN has proven to be an invaluable tool for safety around the globe.
Our safety statistics speak for themselves. We’re proud to be recognized with better than industry rates of experience through WorkSafeBC. We’ve achieved Zero Frequency Injury Rates and demonstrated a Superior Safety Record. Our goal is no accidents or incidents. No lesser goal can be the aim.
