The Burns and Trauma units of Vancouver General Hospital were in need of a revised layout to allow for additional beds and upgraded services for their critical care patients. This challenging endeavour required sound and dustproof hoarding inside an environment that could not be shut down during construction. Sensitivity to the critically ill patients was the first priority while inside the temporary walls of the construction site, the demolition, renovation and finishing of the new facility carried on. The project was completed in three phases, requiring aggressive scheduling and trade coordination to ensure the continuity and quality of care provided daily by the VGH staff was maintained at all times.
