North Surrey’s Central City area has experienced exponential growth over the past two decades. The Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre has been at the heart of this community and now requires an expansion to accommodate the growing diversity of the region.
Working with the City of Surrey and Shape Architecture, Scott has been selected as the Construction Manager for this expansion project, expected to begin in the Spring of 2023 and scheduled for completion in 2024. The two-storey expansion will build upon the existing facility to include a second gymnasium, large fitness area, fitness studio, billiards room, multi-purpose rooms, arts and crafts rooms, teaching kitchen, childcare space, and common space. Construction of the project will emphasize energy efficiency, featuring a Passive-first design that operates at or near zero emissions, and will pursue Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Gold Certification. Additional features of the expansion project include a large civic plaza with a landscaped green space suitable for hosting special events.
