Large-Scale Imaging Facility

Client: Canadian Border Security Agency (CBSA)
Location: Surrey, BC
Delivery Method: Construction Management
Size: 5,845 sq. ft.
Completion: 2016
Project Highlights
  • First large-scale imaging facility in Canada
  • Constrained Site- Mobile crane was used as there wasn't room for a tower crane
  • Walls were prefabricated onsite

In the summer 2017, the CBSA successfully commissioned its first Fixed-Site Large-Scale Imaging (FS-LSI) facility at the Pacific Highway port of entry. Turnkey design with supply, installation and implementation of a concrete, fixed-site, largescale imaging facility — the first of its kind in Canada, provided by Rapiscan, the equipment supplier.

This technology enables rapid x-ray imaging of large and difficult-to-inspect conveyances, including transport trucks, tankers, RVs, and boats. This allows CBSA Officers to inspect conveyances more easily and efficiently so they can interdict contraband and facilitate the trade of legitimate goods.
